Why did the fire alarm beep?
Last night, it was midnight and I was laying in my bed listening to my iPod, my sister was on her laptop, and my mom was getting herself ready to go to sleep. When all of a sudden, I heard a loud "BEEP!"(it wasn't a light chirping sound..it was like LOUD LOUD BEEEP! & only once) in not only my room, but somewher else in the house. My sister said she heard it downstairs first, and then all over upstairs. We saw nor smelled any smoke. And thought that someone broke into the house. So we checked around the house to make sure everything was fine. We saw nothing wrong. And that's the end. We have a FireX alarm. My mom figured that it was the batteries..but how could it be more than 1 out of battery? and them beeping at the same time? O.o Not only that, the light on the alarms are green. Except for my mom's, I saw that hers turned orange/red every 27 seconds. (Yes I counted...XD) So we don't know what's wrong! T.T
Sounds like a dead/dying battery. Newer systems have the smoke detectors 'hard-wired' together so when one detects smoke, they all sound to give better warning.
Smoke detector batteries are most often 9Volt batteries. They should be changed every six (6) months - before they beep like they did last night. Change them all at one time and do it every six months.
